36-hour water shutdown to affect Polokwane’s water supply

Lepelle Northern Water says the interruption is due to the commissioning of work on the Megoring and Thakgalang River crossings in the Mankweng area.

POLOKWANE – Residents are urged to take precautionary measures and store enough water ahead of a 36-hour planned shutdown of the Ebenezer plant.

Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) says the interruption is due to the commissioning of work on the Megoring and Thakgalang River crossings in the Mankweng area.

A statement by LNW says the shutdown is scheduled for Tuesday into Wednesday (November 19-20) and forms part of the Olifantspoort and Ebenezer Schemes refurbishment project.

“Critical pipeline upgrades are set for completion by December 2024 and are expected to enhance the long-term reliability of the water supply infrastructure and reduce the risk of future disruptions.”

Meanwhile, the Polokwane Municipality says a further 48-hour shutdown will commence on December 4-5 due to work at the Olifantspoort Plant and will affect supply to all areas within the municipal bounds.
