Polokwane teen selected for LA WCOPA

Mpilenhle Twala (17) selected for the World Championships of Performing Arts in LA and seeks sponsorship to represent SA.

POLOKWANE – Mpilenhle Twala, a 17-year-old from the city, has been selected to join the South African team competing in the prestigious World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Los Angeles in June next year.

Twala, a learner from Tom Naudé Technical High School, secured her place on the South African singing team after auditioning in Rustenburg, guided by her vocal instructor, Elmarie Swanepoel. Twala and her family are seeking sponsorship to cover the R90 000 required for her to participate.

“We want Mpilenhle to represent South Africa in the best way possible,” said her mother, Duduzile, adding that they hope to secure funds by November 27.

Any assistance from the community or potential sponsors would be deeply appreciated.

The WCOPA, often known as the ‘Talent Olympics’, features aspiring performers from around the world.

Highlights include the Parade of Nations, Worldstars Boot Camp, and a live-streamed event where the grand champions will be crowned. Winners will share in over a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships and prizes. To support Mpilenhle’s journey, contact her mother, Duduzile, via WhatsApp at 079 629 1418.
