WATCH: Dashcam footage emerges from fatal N1 head-on collision

The driver of a bakkie died when the vehicle collided head-on with a truck on the N1 North on Wednesday morning.

POLOKWANE – Dashcam footage has emerged of a head-on collision on the N1 North on Wednesday morning.

In the video, posted by SA Trucker, a truck can be seen travelling north in the direction of Louis Trichardt when a bakkie, travelling south, suddenly veers into the oncoming lane and collides head-on.

The truck driver can be seen trying to avoid the collision but couldn’t do so in time.

At the time of the collision, the truck was travelling at around 67km/h.

Eyewitnesses say the truck sustained substantial damage while the bakkie was totalled due to impact.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety’s acting spokesperson Mafenya Lediga confirmed the collision and told the Polokwane Review-Observer that the driver of the bakkie died on the scene.

He added that the truck driver sustained no injuries during the collision.

“The possible cause of the accident has been cited as reckless driving,” he said.
