POLOKWANE – Congratulations are in the air following Magesi FC’s stun win against Sundowns FC in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup last night.
The Moletjie outfit shocked Sundowns after Tshepo Kakora and Delano Abrahams’s two goals in the 48th and 87th, respectively to lift the cup.

The Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Funani Jerry Maseko congratulated the team, adding that the victory is a testament to the hard work, discipline and dedication displayed by the players, technical team, and management of the club.

As the MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture in Limpopo, it is with immense pride and joy that I extend heartfelt congratulations to Magesi Football Club for their extraordinary achievement in winning the prestigious Carling Knockout Cup. Their outstanding performance has not only brought glory to the club but has also united and inspired the entire province. Magesi FC’s journey in this tournament has been a shining example of teamwork, resilience, and determination. Their success reflects the immense talent and potential that exists within Limpopo, and it serves as a reminder of the transformative power of sport in uplifting communities and fostering social cohesion,” he said.

The Mayor of Polokwane John Mpe says the club’s fighting spirit, determination and skill to bring the cup back to Moletji brings immense pride to Polokwane and the entire Limpopo province.

“Who had ever thought that a team from a rural village in Polokwane, in their first season in the elite league, could lift this prestigious cup and bring it home to Polokwane? This is history,” Mpe said.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the passionate supporters who travelled to Bloemfontein and those back home who stood by the team. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in this historic achievement. They have made us proud and prove that it doesn’t matter where you come from to reach the top and be victorious,” Mpe added.
