Polokwane carnival kicks off Mapungubwe Arts Festival
A vibrant Street Cultural Carnival in Polokwane set the stage for the Mapungubwe Arts Festival 2024, celebrating culture and creativity.
POLOKWANE – In the lead-up to the Mapungubwe Arts Festival 2024, set to take place on 14 December at the Mapungubwe National Park, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, with support from the Limpopo Provincial Government (Office of the Premier), hosted a vibrant Street Cultural Carnival in Polokwane on 29 November.
The event aimed to create awareness and excitement for the upcoming musical extravaganza.
Featuring towering figures and a lively procession, the carnival brought the streets of Polokwane to life.
Starting at Olympic Towers and concluding at SABC Park, the parade covered various streets, captivating residents with diverse music performances, including the SAPS Band.
“The parade is not intended to spark noise and distraction in this vibrant city of Polokwane, but to promote cultural exchange, amplify creativity in the province, as well as provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work,” organisers explained.
Residents eagerly joined the festivities, embracing the cultural showcase and the carnival’s dynamic spirit as it passed through the city.
