Learner earns scholarship to Curro Heuwelkruin
Chantell Khalushi has earned a scholarship to Curro Heuwelkruin with her academic dedication and perseverance paying off.
POLOKWANE – Next year, Chantell Khalushi will start a new chapter as a scholarship recipient at Curro Heuwelkruin, an achievement earned through her unwavering academic dedication. This milestone is the culmination of seven years of hard work and perseverance.
Chantell is currently wrapping up her primary school career at Piet Hugo Primary School, where she served as the head girl in 2024 and was honoured as learner of the year. Reflecting on her role as head girl, Chantell shares the joy she found in its responsibilities and the pride it brought her.
What sets Chantell apart is her consistent academic excellence – she has been among the top 10 learners every year from Gr 1 to Gr 7, often claiming the number one spot. “I studied really hard, and my mom was my biggest supporter,” Chantell says.
“She quizzed me before tests and exams, and I also used methods like rewriting and recalling to prepare.”
Chantell, the eldest of three children, is passionate about mathematics and English.
She enjoys solving maths problems and loves reading, particularly non-fiction and autobiographies. Her favourite? Nelson Mandela’s story.
At the recent Piet Hugo prize-giving ceremony, Chantell received 12 awards, with the netball award and learner of the year recognition being the most surprising. “I didn’t focus much on netball, so that award was unexpected. The big trophy was a nice surprise too,” she says.
In her free time, Chantell enjoys crocheting with her mother, crafting small keyrings for her siblings. Her advice for others aiming to achieve similar success is simple: “Just keep studying”.
