Tom Naudé readathon sparks love for reading
Katlego Moloto and Hloma Monama founded the Tom Naudé readathon, inspiring peers to read and learn.
POLOKWANE – Between 2020 and 2022, life was challenging for many, but Katlego Moloto and Hloma Monama decided to bring a positive change to their school by co-founding the Tom Naudé Readathon. Their mission was to inspire a love for reading among their peers and make learning fun and engaging.
“The readathon was designed to create a competitive reading culture within Tommieland,” says Katlego. “Although it didn’t reach as many learners as we had hoped, those who participated showed a lot of determination.”
Over the past three years, the event has made an impact, with learners diving into books and coming away with new knowledge and an enriched vocabulary. “That was our shared goal, and we still cherish it,” Katlego adds.
The readathon is open to all Tommie’s learners and aims to equip them with vocabulary, information, and creative imagination. It’s not just about competition but about learning, growing, and sparking curiosity. To make things even more exciting, tuckshop vouchers are up for grabs as prizes.
Katlego and Hloma hope to see the readathon grow in future years, reaching even more learners and fostering a lifelong love for books.
