Bendor man busted with R300k worth of unregistered medicine

The items confiscated included Schedule 4 and Schedule 5 drugs which can only be prescribed by a medical practitioner via a valid prescription.

POLOKWANE – A Bendor man (33) will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (December 2) for contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.

The man was arrested by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit last Friday morning (November 29) following a tip-off about a man suspected of selling steroids in the Bendor area.

“The suspect, residing in the Blue Heaven Estate, allegedly sourced the steroids online for distribution. A search warrant was executed at his residence, where various types of unregistered tablets, syringes, and other liquid substances were recovered from his garage,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.

Ledwaba added that the items confiscated included Schedule 4 and Schedule 5 drugs which can only be prescribed by a medical practitioner via a valid prescription.

The Department of Health and other relevant stakeholders were present at the scene to assist with the investigation.

“The estimated value of the seized medication is approximately R300 000,” he concluded.
