TAKE NOTE: 48-hour water shutdown to commence on Wednesday

Lepelle Northern Water says their team of engineers and the contractor have completed the last quality assurance checks in preparation for the repairs.

POLOKWANE – Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) says the Specon Pipeline in Lebowakgomo will be shut down for 48-hours on Wednesday and Thursday affecting Polokwane and the Lepelle Nkumpi Municipalities.

LNW says this is due to the commissioning of newly installed pipelines, the last 7km of the 28km, 800mm steel pipeline, and that the shutdown will only affect the Olifantspoort Scheme.

“The newly diverted pipeline in Lebowakgomo will be ready for commissioning before the much-anticipated summer season when water demand significantly rises. LNW’s team of engineers and the contractor have completed the last quality assurance checks in preparation for the pipeline’s commissioning,” LNW spokesperson Joe Makhafola said.

Makhafola added that the leaks in the aged Specon pipeline are no longer manageable and result in prolonged repair time.

“Our journey to infrastructure renewal is gaining significant traction with the commissioning of the Specon pipeline, which will ensure a sustainable and reliable bulk water supply from the Olifantspoort. The replacement of the Specon pipeline will minimise the downtime of the scheme, thus resulting in sustainable and reliable water for the residents of the Capricorn District and Polokwane Municipalities,” he concluded.
