Playbox project to boost parent-child learning in Mokopane

The Parent Playbox initiative empowers parents and caregivers to support their children's learning and development at home.

MOKOPANE – A new trend, the Parent Playbox project, has arrived in Mokopane, with The Compass Academy of Learning (CAL) becoming one of six sites in South Africa to join the initiative this year.

Hanell Theron, a spokesperson for the project, said the Parent Playbox has been rolled out at 126 sites across the country.

The Parent Playbox is an innovative initiative aimed at empowering parents and caregivers with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to actively support their children’s learning, development, and well-being from home.

“The core of the Parent Playbox is a carefully curated kit filled with weekly activities and play prompts,” she said.

“These activities, designed with a holistic early years framework, cover various aspects of basic education, physical development, and overall well-being, providing a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for children.”

Each participating parent is required to attend a morning training session, where they will receive a complete kit of resources and activities to help them engage constructively with their children.

“The first training session was held on Saturday, where parents received their packages,” Hanell added, that a follow-up session will take place at the end of January. This marks the beginning of a project where parents can receive ongoing support and guidance as a group in their parenting journey.”
