Vhembe entrepreneur builds thriving poultry business

Adivhaho Ravuluvulu's poultry business, Golden Feathers, is thriving in Vhembe, creating jobs and boosting food security.

LIMPOPO – In a small village in Vhembe, Adivhaho Ravuluvulu is proof that ‘going big’ doesn’t mean leaving home.

This passionate entrepreneur from Ha-Mavhunda Tshiromboda has turned his dreams into reality, building a thriving poultry business while contributing to his community.

Ravuluvulu’s journey started at just 15, growing tomatoes in his village. Water shortages, however, pushed him to explore new paths. While studying for a B.Comm degree at the University of Johannesburg and working part-time in security, Ravuluvulu’s vision for a sustainable business was born. His hard work culminated in the founding of Golden Feathers, a poultry company.

“My motivation comes from wanting to create a sustainable business that provides quality poultry products to the community,” Ravuluvulu said. He also saw an opportunity to tackle food security while creating jobs. Starting with limited resources, he built facilities for 5 000 chickens and currently has 1 500.

Golden Feathers now employs three staff members, and Ravuluvulu has big plans for the future. He aims to expand into egg production and increase capacity, creating more jobs and contributing significantly to food security in his village. “It’s fulfilling to nurture chickens and know that my efforts feed the community while creating opportunities for others,” he added.

Despite challenges like maintaining flock health, managing costs, and ensuring consistent production, Ravuluvulu remains steadfast. He adheres to strict health protocols, sources quality feed, and keeps a close eye on finances.

In five years, he envisions Golden Feathers as a leading poultry business with diversified products, a larger workforce, and a stronger impact on local food security. “The process teaches patience and resilience, and seeing healthy flocks is immensely satisfying,” he said.

Ravuluvulu credits his family’s unwavering support for his perseverance. “Their encouragement gives me strength when challenges arise. By planning for growth and adopting sustainable practices, I aim to meet the growing demand for poultry in my community,” he concluded.
