Mapungubwe Festival kicks off with Polokwane street parade
Limpopo celebrates cultural diversity with vibrant Mapungubwe Arts Festival street parade, previewing the December 14 festival.
POLOKWANE – Limpopo’s cultural diversity came alive during the Mapungubwe Arts Festival Street Cultural Parade on November 29, a walk from the Olympic Towers (in Biccard Street) to the SABC Park, and other streets in the CBD.
As a build-up to the Mapungubwe Arts Festival 2024, which is set to take place on December 14 at the Mapungubwe National Park, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, supported by the Office of the Premier (Provincial Government), organised and led a musical street cultural carnival. While at work, school and some at home,
Polokwane residents saw gigantic figures parading the streets in the city, playing songs for the whole town to take note of the upcoming musical extravaganza.
“The parade is meant to promote cultural exchange, amplify creativity in the province, and provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work. We invite people to come and experience an event of a life time,” Arts and Culture MEC Jerry Maseko said.
Residents joined the parade, which also included the Polokwane SAPS Band.
