POLOKWANE – The Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba unveiled 251 heavy earth-moving machines on Monday, meant to enhance the maintenance of the province’s gravel roads.

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba unveils 251 yellow fleet machines on behalf of the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Polokwane.

The impressive fleet showcased a variety of equipment, including front loaders, graders, concrete mixers, tar cutters, mini-buses, vans, and slow rollers.

The machinery fulflls a promise made during the launch of the Dikgerekgere Wednesday programme in July – an initiative that focuses on road maintenance activities such as blading, re-gravelling, and clearing road reserves.

“This initiative makes a bold statement about our commitment to empowering the people of Limpopo and enhancing our road systems.”

“When we announced this programme, many doubted its viability and predicted its failure. Today, we prove them wrong as we push forward with determination,” Ramathuba stated.

The day concluded with an appreciation lunch hosted by Rachoene for the drivers and operators of the newly acquired fleet, recognising their hard work in serving Limpopo communities. Additionally, the department highlighted the recent hiring of 172 workers dedicated to road maintenance.
