Polokwane Rotary impresses DG with community projects

The Rotary Club showcased its community-driven projects to District Governor George Senosha, impressing him with their initiatives.

POLOKWANE – The Rotary Club of Polokwane recently received a visit from District Governor (DG) of Rotary District 9400, George Senosha, and took the opportunity to appease the leader of some of the projects that the club is currently driving.

Rotary President John Mogodi welcomed Senosha at the club’s dinner meeting and exchanged banners.

Robust discussions and ideas were exchanged on the exciting projects and programmes planned by the club for the short, medium and long term.

The vision of forward thinking and planning by the club was commended by the DG and he certainly appreciated the ‘Business Unusual’ approach adopted by the club.

The ease of sharing of ideas and suggestions between the DG and foundation chairperson, Rotarian Vinesh Devchander with a view of future club growth and development culminated in strong bonds of mutual respect and a willingness to work towards the good of all persons touched by the magic of Rotary.

This mutual respect was sealed with a firm handshake based on the understanding that Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self will continue to be the keystone of actions going forward.

The following day, Senosha made it a point to visit the much-talked about projects being carried out by the club at the Kabosadi Disability Centre, situated on the outskirts of Polokwane and he was impressed with the highly efficient rainwater system that the Rotary Club installed at the Kabosadi Disability Centre. The system was at maximum capacity from the recent rains received in the area. The DG was seen washing his hands with the harvested rain water.

Going further, Mogodi and Senosha arrived at the Siloe School for the Blind. This was a historic moment at the school where the My Body Is My Body initiative was launched to bring awareness to the children regarding the need to guard against abuse and bullying. Some of the crafts made at the Siloe Workshop emphasised the need to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Devchander explained the filtration and rain harvesting system that was installed by Varuna Rain Harvesting System (Pty) Ltd in partnership with the Rotary Club of Polokwane. The effectiveness of the rainwater harvesting system was evident by the full capacity of the JoJo tank from the recent rains in the area and the DG was thoroughly impressed with the work done and urged the club to continue with the excellence in partnership and deliverance to the people of the province as a whole.
