Gr 9 learners prepare for crucial subject choices

Gr 9 learners face big decisions as they choose Gr 10 subjects, shaping their academic paths and future career opportunities.

POLOKWANE – As Grade 9 learners approach the end of their foundational phase, they are faced with the most challenging decision that will shape their academic future.

In Grade 10, learners are required to choose streams of their choice which will determine the subjects they will study for the next three years.

These subjects will help them to pursue careers they would like to follow in the future. This decision can be daunting, as it has significant implications for their future career prospects and post-secondary education opportunities.

Grade 9 learners at PEPPS shared their views on the subjects they would like to choose in Grade 10:

Laila Monyemangene: I would choose sciences together with geography, reason been under geography is because I’ve always been interest in what is going on deep inside and outside the earth. I believe that there are a lot of things that are undiscovered and I want to be one of the lucky people to discover something out there. For science is because I want to do medicine and be a dermatologist and takeover my mother’s business.
Kgothatso Sepuru: The subjects that I will choose next year are physics and life science because I want to be an orthodontist and IT so that I know how to operate other machines that include technology.
Erin Altenroxel: I would like to choose science because I’ve always had passion for science, I always do research whether its on biology or astronomy. In my future I’d hopefully choose career that involves both biology and EGD as well as physical science such as biomedical engineering and medical technician.
Nokukhanya Velempini: I would choose science as well as history although in reality I would like to pursue Law. I choose these subject for formality and boost my resume since I do well in science. I want to pursue Law because I feel like there is a problem in today’s current law system, how people are trialed so I would like to fix these kind of problems. When I was a kid I was taught that if you notice something wrong, you are the one who should fix it.
Liam Sikhwivhilu: I’d choose history, business studies and CAT, history will help me in university with my essays and research of what happened in the past. For business is because I’ve always wanted to be a business man and help the community. Lastly for CAT I want to be in the computing sector and work overseas such as Britain United State and New Zealand.
Letago Setwaba: For next year I would choose science stream because I want to go into aviation because I am interested in sky. Aviation will be good for me because there are less pilots in South Africa so being a pilot will also motivate young children to follow aviation career so that we can have more pilots in South Africa.
Babalo Ntombela: I would go for history and business studies, although I want to do acting. Business will be my backup plan because there are no recognised South Africans overseas so I want to be one of the South Africans who can inspire young children to go for their dream even if it is not popular as other careers.
