Police are on the hunt for suspects after stolen bakkie chase ended in abandonment on the R101 in the early hours of Monday morning.

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who fled from the police following a high speed chase on the R101 in the early hours of Monday morning.

Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng said the police were conducting patrol duties when they received a tip off about a stolen white bakkie driving near the Kuschke Secondary school.

“The suspects drove off at a high speed once the vehicle was spotted by the police and a car chase ensued until Almadal on the R101,” his statement read

The bakkie stopped and an unknown number of suspects got out, abandoned the vehicle and ran into the bushes.

“The vehicle was searched and police found a firearm with a large quantity of ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bakkie was reported stolen in Pretoria North. Both the vehicle and the firearm and ammunition were confiscated at the scene and a manhunt of the unknown suspects has been launched for their arrest,” Thakeng said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Investigating Officer Lieutenant Colonel Dithutle Molepo on 082 565 8566; the crime stop number 0860010111 or nearest police station or MySAPSApp.
