LIMPOPO – Limpopo’s multi-disciplinary operation Vala Umgodi has led to the arrest of 20 suspects involved in illegal mining activities, drug dealing and violations of immigration laws.
Illegally mined chrome worth over R1m was seized during the operation after investigations led the team to the Spitskop Farm in Dithamaga Village, Burgersfort, where illegal mining activities were taking place.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says two male suspects, aged 38 and 58, were arrested for illegally mining chrome with an excavator.

“A total of 13 loads of chrome, with an estimated value of R1 058 560 was confiscated as well as the excavator,” Ledwaba said.
Meanwhile, a man (31) was arrested at the Groblersdal Taxi Rank for drug dealing on Sunday (January 19).
