Lim kickboxers take on the African Championships

Limpopo kickboxers shine at African Continental Championships, claiming top spots and vying for World Games qualification in China.

POLOKWANE – South African kickboxers from Limpopo, representing the Ring Kings Kickboxing Club, were invited to compete in the African Continental Championships 2024, which was held in Gauteng, Benoni from December 9 to 12.

Sensei Antoinette Clarke competed in the kick light under 65kg veterans category and came in second place, while sensei Marisa Nel competed in the kick light over 65kg veterans category, and also ended in second place, third in points for veterans over 65kg and first in musical forms weapons for veterans category.

The young sensei Caitlin van Wyk competed in the ring contact low kick, under 60kg category and came in second place.

The African Continental Championships is the most important kickboxing competition in Africa, where the best athletes from all over the continent showcase their skills and talents in various disciplines and weight categories.

This is also a unique opportunity to qualify for the World Games being hosted in China later this year.

This prestigious event is organised by the African Kickboxing Confederation (WAKC) and the South African Kickboxing Association (Saka), under the auspices of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations International Federation (Wako IF).

“We believe that Africa is a continent with huge potential for the development and growth of kickboxing, as it has a rich and diverse culture, a young and dynamic population, and a passion for combat sports. We are delighted to support and promote the kickboxing movement in Africa, and to cooperate with the continental body and Saka, who have been working hard to organise a successful and memorable event,” said Wako president Roy Baker.
