Limpopo security guard arrested for assaulting wife with hammer

The provincial police commissioner applauded the victim for being brave enough to report a domestic violence case.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo police have arrested a security guard for the alleged assault of his wife with a hammer.

The man was arrested on Sunday morning (January 19) following the incident at their home in Mavandla Village and appeared before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng said the victim was assaulted by her husband following an argument in which he demanded his firearm.

“The wife allegedly hid the firearm in their house as the couple were regularly having heated arguments. The suspect assaulted his wife with a hammer and the victim reported the incident to the police and handed the said firearm in,” Thakeng said.

A case was opened and the suspect was then arrested for assault GBH and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and applauded the victim for being brave enough to report a domestic violence case which led to the seizure of an unlicensed firearm.
