PEPPS debater shines at World Schools Debating Championships
PEPPS debater Khathutshelo Mainganye represented Limpopo at the World Schools Debating Championship, ranking 1st in Limpopo and 3rd overall.

POLOKWANE – PEPPS debater Khathutshelo Mainganye made the province proud by participating in the prestigious World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) held at Kingswood College in Makhanda, Eastern Cape.
As the only representative from Limpopo in a team of 10 – comprised mainly of participants from Gauteng – Mainganye showcased her exceptional skills.
Ranking first in Limpopo and an impressive third overall in the competition, she has been invited to trial for the South African team at Constitutional Hill.
Reflecting on her experience, she described the tournament as challenging and rewarding.
“The motions were structured in a way that pushed us to extend ourselves as debaters. It was one of the most demanding but enjoyable tournaments I’ve attended,” she said.
Looking ahead, Mainganye will undergo rigorous preparation, including online and in-person sessions focused on research, content creation, and team development, leading up to July. Offering advice to aspiring national debaters, she said, “Stop doubting your efforts.
“Tournament results don’t always reflect your intellect. Different dynamics and selection criteria can influence rankings – it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.”
