Miss South Africa Disability welcomed to Vhembe
Mathilda Mamatseane inspires with her mission to uplift people with disabilities, promote inclusivity, and give back to her community.
LIMPOPO – Mathilda Mamatseane, the first Miss South Africa Disability 2024/25, is on a mission to inspire and uplift people with disabilities while making a meaningful impact in her community.
Speaking at her official welcome by the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) last Monday, she shared a message of resilience, self-acceptance, and empowerment.
“Your disability is a part of what makes you unique and special. Don’t hide, but shine. Don’t be afraid to show the world who you are and what you can do. Believe in yourself; you are capable. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
As part of her mission to bring change, Mamatseane donated school shoes and sanitary pads to Zwithuzwavhudi Secondary School in Gondeni la-Hamabilu village near Thohoyandou before the main event. “School shoes are a basic need for many children in South Africa, especially in rural areas like my home village. By providing shoes, I aim to restore dignity and confidence while promoting inclusivity in education.”
She spoke of the struggles many girls face in accessing sanitary products. “Menstruation is a natural part of life, but many girls miss school due to a lack of sanitary products. By donating sanitary pads, I hope to empower girls and women with disabilities to take control of their health and well-being.”
Addressing the challenges faced by people with disabilities, Mamatseane urged them to persevere and embrace their uniqueness, and she focused on the importance of education, skill development, and building a support network. “Life can be tough, but you are tougher. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem.”
As a role model, Mamatseane said she understands the fears, struggles, and hopes of people with disabilities. “You are not alone in this journey. Remember, you are capable, strong, and deserving of respect, dignity, and opportunities. Keep shining, keep pushing, and never give up on your dreams.”
VDM Mayor Freda Nkondo praised Mamatseane’s resilience and determination.
“From humble beginnings in the rural areas of the far north, through hail and thunderstorms, nothing stopped Mathilda from realising her dream of becoming Miss South Africa Disability,” she said.
Mamatseane’s reign as Miss South Africa Disability is not just about wearing a crown, but also about creating change.
Beyond her community initiatives, she pursues her passion for crafting handmade wooden creations through her Mathilda Mamatseane brand.
