ANCYL Peter Mokaba Region elects leadership

The ANC Youth League elects new leadership focusing on youth empowerment and economic opportunities after organisational rebuilding.

POLOKWANE – The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Peter Mokaba Region has entered a new chapter following the successful delivery of its ninth elective congress, held at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The congress saw the election of a largely new leadership team, tasked with revitalising the organisation after previous structural challenges.

The new leadership includes Billy Pillay as chairperson, Itireleng Rachuene as deputy chairperson, Percy Nchabeleng as secretary, Raymond Makhura as deputy secretary, and Milicent Sekonya as treasurer – the only woman in the top five.

The congress follows a six-month period of rebuilding, during which a regional task team was convened to restore the youth league’s organisational integrity. The new leadership is prioritising youth economic empowerment by forging partnerships with the private sector. They aim to secure job and business opportunities for young people in the region while encouraging public sector comrades to ensure transparency in the advertisement of funded vacancies.

“We plan on reaching out to companies whose products we consume daily to request their employment statistics and ensure that regional opportunities are prioritised,” explained Nchabeleng.

Preparations are also underway for the election of the ANCYL provincial leadership. Nchabeleng expressed confidence in Tony Rachoene, the sitting provincial chairperson, to transition into a senior provincial role, believing his leadership can influence the ANC mother body positively.

Rachoene, the MEC of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure, has been commended for impactful initiatives such as the ‘Dikgerekgere Wednesday’ project, which focuses on repairing gravel roads weekly across the province.

The congress resolved to back Faith Sebopela as the incoming provincial chairperson, Phineas Sebola as provincial secretary, and to support John Mpe in retaining his position as regional chairperson of the ANC Peter Mokaba Region for a third term.
