Noorderland learner leads with purpose and passion

Mudalo Magoma balances leadership and academics as school treasurer and district head through dedication and discipline.

POLOKWANE – Mudalo Magoma is a young leader who wears many hats with determination and purpose. The Gr 12 learner at Noorderland High School serves as the school’s treasurer, the circuit RCL treasurer, and the district head of sport, arts and culture.

Managing these roles is no small feat, but Mudalo credits prayer and prioritisation for keeping him grounded. While some of his duties demand significant time, he finds a balance by organising his responsibilities efficiently. Despite being naturally shy, he has embraced leadership roles that don’t necessarily require him to be in the spotlight.

Mudalo believes that a good treasurer must be firm and resilient. “You shouldn’t be easily influenced by others, especially when handling finances, as it could lead to corruption. You must be resolute and stand by what you believe in,” he said. Transparency is also key, ensuring that financial records at both school and circuit levels are clear and accountable.

As the district head of sport, arts and culture, Mudalo aims to expand sports participation in schools, particularly in rural areas. “Many schools only offer netball, soccer, and rugby. We want to introduce sporting codes like tennis so that more learners from our province can compete at a national level,” he explained.

Beyond sport, he envisions implementing more arts and cultural activities to enrich learner experiences.

With the demands of leadership and academics, Mudalo relies on prayer and a structured study timetable to stay on track. “These responsibilities come all at once, with constant meetings. I wouldn’t be able to manage everything on my own,” he told Review.

As he approaches the end of his high school journey, Mudalo reflects on what he will miss most – the school culture and interacting with his peers. His dedication and leadership serve as an inspiration to fellow learners, proving that with discipline and faith, anything is possible.
