Gospel sensation gives back on her birthday
Dr Winnie Mashaba marked her birthday by giving back to Polokwane’s homeless and visiting an old age home.
POLOKWANE – Ahead of the Relebogile Music Festival held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday, South African gospel sensation Dr Winnie Mashaba marked her birthday in a heartfelt way – by giving back to the community.
The award-winning gospel singer, TV presenter, and businesswoman took to the streets of Polokwane for a birthday food parcel drive, offering warm meals and refreshments to the homeless.
Driven by compassion and generosity, Mashaba’s gesture aimed to bring joy and comfort to those in need.
Adding to the day’s significance, she visited the Phuti Molapo Old Age Home in Seshego, where she spent quality time with the elderly. Reflecting on the experience, Mashaba said: “Spending a day at the old age home on my birthday brought me so much joy. I also got an opportunity to get some wisdom words through interacting with them, and also the compassion, and understanding of the needs of the elderly. It was a precious and special day for me indeed, and I’m happy I made it meaningful.”

Dr Mashaba, who has been nominated for prestigious accolades such as the Kora Award for Best African Spiritual Female in 2005, has also received recognition from the South African Music Awards (Sama), South African Gospel Awards, and Metro FM Music Awards.
The Relebogile Music Festival itself featured a star-studded gospel lineup including Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Bucy Radebe, Takie Ndou, Rebone Kgotso, Kutullo ‘Mr Creativity’ Moagi, Charlie Bass, Katleho Seobi, Khutjo Malete, Mynah Rams, and City Modiba, among others – showcasing a vibrant celebration of gospel music across various genres.
