MOKOPANE – The Department of Health confirmed that disciplinary proceedings are underway against a medical doctor at George Masebe Hospital, following allegations of the attempted rape of a pregnant patient.
This development follows an earlier report by Bosveld on a visit to the hospital by Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego, prompted by the serious nature of the allegations.

Based on the findings of the investigation, the department has decided to pursue charges of misconduct against the doctor involved. A disciplinary panel has been formally constituted and is currently handling the matter.
In a statement, the department stressed its commitment to upholding professional conduct within public health facilities.
“Allegations of sexual misconduct are treated with the utmost seriousness. Upon receiving the complaint, immediate steps were taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected patient, in line with public service regulations.”
Mashego welcomed the disciplinary process, reiterating the department’s commitment to ethical care.
“While we uphold the principle of innocent until proven guilty, we maintain a zero-tolerance stance on any form of abuse or misconduct within our facilities. Patients must be treated in a safe and respectful environment, and any breach of this trust warrants decisive action,” she said.
The department added that no further public comments will be made at this stage, to preserve the integrity of the disciplinary process and protect the privacy of those involved.
