Man (30) arrested for funeral shooting in Ga-Molepo
Mankweng police arrested a man for attempted murder after a shooting disrupted a funeral in Ga-Molepo and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
POLOKWANE – A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder, following a shooting that occurred during a funeral gathering in Ga-Molepo in the Mankweng policing precinct on Saturday morning.
This is according to information supplied by police spokesperson, Brig Hlulani Mashaba on Sunday. He explained that the officers in blue received information regarding the shooting and responded immediately.
During the crime scene investigation, police recovered several spent cartridges and the firearm supposedly used in the shooting was also recovered.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been charged with attempted murder.
The motive for the shooting incident remains unknown and police investigations are ongoing.
Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe expressed concern after the incident and condemned the use of firearms to resolve disputes, particularly during community gatherings meant for mourning and remembrance.
“We cannot tolerate such senseless acts of violence, especially during times when families and communities come together to pay their last respects to the deceased. We call on community members to find peaceful ways to resolve their differences,” Hadebe said.
