Polokwane’s Ward 13 to vote again on July 16

A by-election for Ward 13 in Polokwane is set for July 16 after the EFF’s Mafiwa Leballo was expelled over repeated council absences.

POLOKWANE – A by-election in Polokwane’s Ward 13 has been scheduled for July 16 following the expulsion of former EFF councillor, Mafiwa Leballo.

His removal from the Polokwane Municipality is reportedly due to repeated absences from council meetings over recent months.

The Ward 16 by-election is set to take place on July 16, following the registration weekend.

The by-election is expected to spark fierce contest between the EFF and the ANC, rekindling tensions last seen during the previous local government election, which turned violent.

One of the most notable incidents occurred in Juju Valley, an area where the EFF enjoyed strong support and re-election, where violent shootings were reported.

In his address to delegates at a recent regional conference held at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium, ANC Peter Mokaba regional executive committee chairperson, John Mpe, stated that the ANC is ready to contest the by-election “without fear or favour,” describing the coming vote as a democratic process.

Meanwhile, the EFF in Limpopo has also confirmed its readiness to participate in the upcoming by-election, calling for a peaceful, free and fair contest without interference or political violence.
