Seshego man back in court for allegedly dismembering his mother

Lesiba David Ledwaba, accused of murdering his mother in Ga-Mashashane, appears in court as the family calls for no bail.

POLOKWANE – The case of a man accused of the murder of his 87-year-old mother before dismembering her body and hiding her body parts in buckets, will continue in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday).

Lesiba David Ledwaba (49) briefly appeared in court last Monday after the murder of his mother, Raisibe Ledwaba in Ga-Mashashane.

Ledwaba was arrested after villagers became suspicious when they had not seen his mother for three days.

As police combed the crime scene, they found a bloodied hacksaw and axe. Ledwaba, who has been remanded in custody, told the magistrate that he did not require a legal representative. He did, however, change his mind after the seriousness of the charge was explained to him.

He agreed to be represented by a Legal Aid lawyer when he returned to court for his formal bail application.

The deceased’s family say they are still reeling in shock.

The victim’s niece, Ramokone Mothapo has pleaded for life imprisonment to be handed down.

“We have more questions than answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the crime. We are calling for the accused to be denied bail and wish for him to spend the rest of his life in prison. We hope that this might bring some solace to our grieving hearts. We are currently at a loss for how to proceed with funeral arrangements,” Mothapo said.
