Full water supply to return to Polokwane by tonight, says LNW

Water supply is expected to return to the city from this afternoon as Lepelle Northern Water confirms they have completed a planned 48-hour shutdown at the Olifantspoort Plant.

POLOKWANE – Water is expected to reach parts of Polokwane from 15:00 today, following the successful completion of Lepelle Northern Water’s (LNW) 48-hour shutdown at the Olifantspoort Plant.

The planned shutdown began earlier this week to allow the connection of new high-efficiency pumps at Pump Stations 2 and 3, which is part of a major infrastructure upgrade targeting old components dating back nearly three decades.

LNW confirmed that work was completed at 03:00 this morning (July 25) and that the pumping process is now underway.

“Full water restoration across the city is expected by 19:00 this evening. This important milestone marks a significant step in the renewal and sustainability of water
infrastructure for the Capricorn District and Polokwane Municipalities,” said LNW spokesperson Joe Makhafola.

While this shutdown is now complete, residents are reminded that more shutdowns are expected in August and September to finalise upgrades at both Olifantspoort and Ebenezer pump stations.
