TAKE NOTE: Dendron road remains closed after chemical spill

The Limpopo Transport Department said the R521 road will remain closed until specialists declare it safe and the truck recovery is complete.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said the R521 road, 10 kilometers out of Polokwane to Dendron, remains closed following yesterday’s collision that led to a chemical spill.

The collision, between a heavy motor vehicle tanker and a light delivery vehicle, led to a full road closure overnight due to the chemical spill posing environmental and safety risks.

According to Transport spokesperson Matome Taueatsoala, the road will remain closed until specialists declare it safe and the truck recovery is complete.

“The truck was carrying a flammable liquid that also poses an explosion risk,” he said.

As a result, motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:
– Moletji Road at Mmakgodu to Moshate
– R567 Seshego/Moletji Road

“Please follow official instructions to ensure safety,” Taueatsoala added.
