Limpopo woman (20) arrested for allegedly choking baby to death

A 20-year-old woman has been arrested outside Bandelierkop after a three-month-old infant was found dead in a home in Mundzedzi village.

LIMPOPO – A 20-year-old woman has been arrested by the Bandelierkop police following the tragic death of a three-month-old infant in Mundzedzi village in the Vhembe District on Friday (August 1).

The Limpopo police say officers were called to the Vleifontein Clinic around 18:30 after two individuals arrived at the facility carrying the lifeless body of a baby.

Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba reports that medical personnel confirmed the baby had died before arrival.

“Preliminary reports suggest that the suspect, who is a relative of the child, was seated outside with him when she took him inside the house. Moments later, the witnesses followed and claim to have found her in a seating position, allegedly choking the child. They intervened and rushed the baby to the clinic, but he was declared dead upon arrival,” his statement reads.

Ledwaba said a case of murder was immediately opened and police managed to trace and arrest the suspect the same day.

“The motive for the incident remains unclear at this stage. The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder,” he adds.

Police investigations continue.
