Limpopo man (55) arrested for alleged rape of minor (11)

After an investigation was reopened, a Makgofe man has been arrested for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl with more arrests are expected.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo police say more arrests are imminent after a 51-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old victim.

The police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba says the incident was reported in March 2024 and an investigation by the Seshego Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses unit (FCS) revealed the victim was allegedly raped between 2021 and 2023.

“It is said the victim, who as staying with her aunt in Makgofe during the commission of the crime, would be sent to the suspects house to request food by her aunt. As the victim was not given any money, the suspect used the opportunity to rape the victim in return for food,” his statement reads.

Ledwaba says the victim reported the ordeal to her aunt, who turned a blind eye and kept quiet. She reportedly continued sending the victim to the suspect.

“In January 2024, the victim’s family received information about the ordeal and reported it to the Seshego police in March 2024. More information received on August 6 led to the FCS unit reviving the investigation after the matter was initially closed as undetected pending further evidence. This information and the re-opened case docket led to the arrest of the suspect,” he adds.

Ledwaba says the suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of rape.

“Police investigations continue.”
