Mankweng man arrested for axe murder of girlfriend in Thakgalang village

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Thakgalang for the brutal murder of his girlfriend whose body was found with multiple stab wounds.

POLOKWANE – The Mankweng police have arrested a man (40) in connection with the brutal murder of his girlfriend (32) at his home in Thakgalang village, Nobody on Monday night (August 11).

The Limpopo police report that the woman’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in the house with multiple stab wounds.

“The victim was certified dead at the scene by paramedics. An axe, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime, was recovered,” said the Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim before contacting her family.

“When the family arrived, they made the shocking discovery. The suspect later attempted suicide at home but failed and subsequently crashed his vehicle near Savannah Mall in Polokwane. He was taken to hospital under police guard. He has since been charged with murder and will soon appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court,” Ledwaba said.

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and called on communities to speak out and report any signs of abuse before it escalates to tragic levels.
