Retired Limpopo police captain guilty of forging overtime documents

The retired Louis Christian La Grange (59) has been convicted of fraud and forgery after faking overtime claims and forging official documents.

LIMPOPO – The Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit has secured the conviction and sentencing of retired police officer Captain Louis Christian La Grange (59) for fraud and forgery.

La Grange, formerly stationed at the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) in Thabazimbi, was found guilty after it emerged that he had submitted false overtime claims.

The Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said the incident dates back to August 4, 2021, when a complainant flagged irregularities in the documents La Grange submitted for payment.

“Investigations revealed that La Grange claimed he worked overtime on July 31, 2021, when he had not been on duty. He also forged the certifying officer’s signature and submitted a diary that did not match the official records issued to him,” his statement read.

The matter was investigated by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, leading to his arrest and several court appearances at the Polokwane Commercial Crimes Court.

Ledwaba said La Grange was sentenced to a R25 000 fine or six years’ imprisonment on Monday (August 11) and he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the conviction.

“This conviction sends a clear message that corruption and dishonesty, regardless of rank or position, will not be tolerated within the SAPS. We remain committed to ensuring that all members uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.”
