Women in uniform seize contraband in Polokwane Prison search
Women in uniform led a surprise search at the Polokwane Correctional Services, removing dangerous contraband and warn against smuggling.
POLOKWANE – In commemoration of Women’s Month, female officers from Polokwane Correctional Services, the police and the Polokwane Municipality law enforcement joined forces on August 6 for a women-led, unannounced search operation at the Polokwane Correctional Centre.
During the search in the facility’s C unit, officials confiscated five cellphones, money, a charger and a sharp object.
Head of Centre Thabo Moremi stressed the importance of such operations to maintain safety, commending the dedication of the “women in brown and blue” who turned out in numbers to remove contraband from the premises.

Communications manager Sachiel Nemafhohoni urged the public to refrain from smuggling prohibited items into the facility, warning that these pose risks not only to staff but also to offenders.
“Working in a safe environment gives us peace of mind. We condemn any smuggling of contraband in our facilities and warn all members of the public not to be found on the wrong side of the law. Should anyone be caught bringing in such items, we will have no choice but to call SAPS and open a case,” he said.
Following the operation at the centre, the women continued their Women’s Month initiative by conducting a roadblock on the N1 North, stopping and searching vehicles for any illegal items.
