A 38-year-old man was shot dead after his car broke down and the killers stopped under the guise of helping.
LIMPOPO – Police have launched an intensive manhunt after a 38-year-old motorist was shot and killed along the N1 South near the Ben Lavin turn-off on Saturday evening (August 16).
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the victim was travelling with three passengers from Gauteng to Musina when the vehicle broke down at around 19:00.
“While they were awaiting assistance, another car stopped nearby. Two unknown men emerged, pretending to offer help, and asked for the driver of the broken-down car.”
“Once the driver was identified, one of the suspects drew a firearm and fired several shots at him. The other passengers fled in different directions to escape harm. The gunmen then returned to their vehicle and sped away from the scene,” says Mashaba.
Emergency services were called, but the victim was declared dead on arrival. His identity has not yet been released, pending further investigation.
A murder case has been opened, with the motive still unclear. Police have appealed to the public for information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.
