Court to decide bail for Rachel Kutumela and Shokane sisters on September 3

The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court reserved bail judgment for Rachel Kutumela and her co-accused until September 3.

POLOKWANE – Former police officer and insurance murder accused Rachel Kutumela, along with co-accused Flora and Anna Shokane, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for the continuation of their bail hearing.

The proceedings involved the reading of heads of argument from both the defence and the state.

Defence lawyer Moses Manthata’s submissions were accepted by the court, while Flora Shokane’s lawyer, Mukoma Maiwashe, argued that his client should be granted bail as she has no pending cases against her and needs to care for her children.

However, state advocate Kgaogelo Lekoloane opposed bail, stating that Shokane’s children are already under the care of her stepfather, David Kutumela.
