Westenburg High School targeted by armed group in R195k burglary

Westenburg High School was burgled by armed suspects who stole laptops, tablets, projectors and cash, all totalling R195k, in the early hours of Friday morning.

POLOKWANE – The Westenburg police have launched a massive manhunt after armed suspects broke into Westenburg High School during the early hours of Friday morning (August 22).

The Limpopo police reports that four armed suspects accosted a security guard on duty.

The guard was tied up at gunpoint and forced to lie down while the suspects demanded access to the computer lab.

“Two more suspects, carrying grinders, later joined the group. The suspects broke into the principal’s office, cut open a safe, and stole an undisclosed amount of money. They then forced their way into the deputy principal’s office and took more property,” the Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said.

The guard managed to escape and alerted the police.

Among the stolen items were:

  • 22 black Mecer tablets

  • Five projectors

  • Two laptops

  • Two cellphones

  • Two extensions

  • Two blue beams

  • A container with an unknown number of cellphones

“The total estimated value of the stolen goods is R195 000. We call on anyone with information to contact Detective Commander Lieutenant Colonel Wisani Manganyi on 082 565 8566, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App.”
