Escaped prisoner re-arrested in Thohoyandou

Vhembe police re-arrest an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped custody on his way to court, tracing him to Waterval.

LIMPOPO – Thohoyandou police have re-arrested 34-year-old Muluvhu Gumani, an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from custody earlier this week.

Gumani fled lawful custody on Monday morning (August 25) while being transported to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.

He had initially been arrested on charges of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.

Following intelligence received by investigators, police traced the suspect to a rental property in the Waterval policing area. He was apprehended on Wednesday (August 27) during a targeted operation.

Gumani is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he will face additional charges of escaping from lawful custody alongside the original robbery charge.

Police confirmed that investigations into the case are continuing.
