LIMPOPO – The Namakgale police in the Mopani District are investigating a brutal domestic-related incident after a man shot and killed his wife, injured a store manager and then turned the gun on himself inside the Namakgale Shopping Complex.

The Limpopo police report that the incident occurred late on Sunday afternoon (September 28).

“The police were called to the Shoprite inside the shopping complex, where they found three individuals lying in a pool of blood with visible injuries. Preliminary reports suggest the suspect (45) followed his wife (40) into the store, where she attempted to hide. Armed with a firearm, he pursued her into the manager’s office, firing two shots and injuring the female manager in the process. He then dragged his wife out of the office, stabbed her multiple times, and fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself,” the police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said.

Ledwaba said that the firearm was unlicensed and its serial number had been filed off.

“Cartridges, projectiles, the firearm and a knife were seized at the scene. The injured manager was rushed to hospital for medical treatment and the identities of the deceased will be released once all family members are informed,” his statement read.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence.

“We urge community members facing challenges in their relationships to seek help and support rather than resorting to violence,” she said.

In a statement, the Namakgale Crossing Shopping Centre assured customers that safety remains its top priority.

“We are working closely with authorities to ensure our centre remains a safe and secure environment for everyone. Our thoughts are with the families affected by this incident,” management said.
