Power failure at Olifantspoort Plant triggers water cuts in Polokwane
Water cuts hit Polokwane after a power failure at the Olifantspoort plant ahead of a planned shutdown as LNW says supply will be fully restored by Friday (October 3).
POLOKWANE – Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) has confirmed an interruption in supply from the Olifantspoort Plant after a power outage, affecting Polokwane and neighbouring municipalities Lepelle Nkumpi and Fetakgomo Tubatse.
LNW spokesperson Joe Makhafola said teams are working with Eskom and contractors on-site to identify and resolve the fault.
“The estimated time for power restoration will be communicated once the fault has been fully assessed,” his statement read.
Makhafola reminded residents that a planned 48-hour shutdown of the Olifantspoort Scheme had already been scheduled for tomorrow (October 1) and Thursday (October 2) to allow for pump set replacement as part of ongoing upgrade works.
“Restoration efforts following the current power outage will therefore be aligned with the scheduled shutdown. This will ensure a comprehensive and reliable reinstatement of water supply by Friday (October 3),” Makhafola said.
