Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive brings vintage glamour to Polokwane
Classic cars, dapper fashion and charity combined as Polokwane hosted the Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive 2025 in support of men’s health.
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Classic Car Club (LCCC) hosted a successful Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive (DGD) in and around the city on Sunday, raising money and promoting awareness for men’s health in support of the Movember initiative.
A group of 29 cars departed from Grounded Container Bar, stopping over at The Ranch Resort and finally returning to the starting point for the prize-giving.
The car of the day was Jannie van Waveren’s 1961 Datsun 1200 Bluebird, Ben Olivier and Yolanda Tiersma walked away with the prizes for the best dressed gentleman and lady, while Pieter Smith was crowned as the best moustache.

Light beverages were on the house and the guests took their seats for either a steak and chips or a chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce and rounded-off with malva pudding and custard.
There was enough time for lots of banter and networking, old friends were greeted and new ones were made.

The cars were all pre-1984 and the most senior participants were the 1954 MG Td and a 1937 Chevrolet Master. A striking yellow 1967 Citroën Dyane and a 1960 DKW 1000S turned the heads of passersby and visitors to the venues.
The entourage followed the N1 via Veldspaat and Munnik streets and two of the golden oldies had to be rescued en-route.
The event included a raffle draw to raise more money for the Movember initiative and chairperson of the club, Gustaf Tiersma confirmed that the food and drinks, as well as other expenses had been sponsored.

“This event is for our pleasure, but also for an opportunity to make a contribution towards men’s health, as cancer affects more than four million men yearly all over the world. Cancer research is very expensive and every small contribution makes a difference and we are pleased to say that around 280 drivers will participate in the drive in South Africa,” Tiersma explained.
Tiersma thanked all the participants for their efforts and said that it is an honour and a pleasure for the club to host the Polokwane DGD 2025.
“We are thankful for all the donations and dapper dressed participants that made the day possible. What better way to promote the awareness of men’s health than through vintage and classic cars,” said host Tiersma.
He confirmed that an even bigger event is planned for next year during September.
