Mall of the North confirms armed robbery at jewellery store

Mall of the North has confirmed an armed robbery at one of its jewellery stores, with no injuries reported.

POLOKWANE – Mall of the North has confirmed that an armed robbery took place earlier today (October 6) at one of its jewellery stores.

According to a statement by general manager Alida Smit, the situation was swiftly contained following the prompt response of the mall’s on-site security team, supported by local and provincial SAPS members.

Voice notes regarding the robbery emerged on local WhatsApp groups around midday, alerting the community and asking for assistance from authorities.

“We are cooperating fully with the authorities as investigations continue. We are thankful that no injuries were reported and that the safety of our shoppers and tenants was maintained throughout,” Smit said.

The mall has since resumed normal operation.

Witnesses reported seeing two armed men fleeing the scene in a silver sedan, although this has not yet been officially confirmed by police.

Mall of the North management reiterated its commitment to ensuring shopper safety: “Mall of the North remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all visitors,” Smit added.

Police are expected to release further details once their investigation concludes.
