Polokwane braces for more rain after Tuesday’s heavy storm
After Tuesday’s heavy downpour, Polokwane faces another round of thunderstorms today with a 60% chance of rain forecast.
POLOKWANE – While no official severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Polokwane today, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast a 60% chance of thunderstorms for the area.

This comes after a heavy storm on Tuesday that brought strong winds, lightning, thunder, and a brief but intense downpour that left several parts of the city waterlogged.
According to AccuWeather’s forecast, thunderstorms are anticipated between 13:00 and 15:00.

Their forecast also indicates a high of 25°C with 2.3mm of rain expected and widely separated thunderstorms this afternoon.
In response, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, warning that heavy rain may reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions.
“Motorists are advised to avoid flooded bridges and low-lying areas, and to be alert for fallen trees, debris, or damaged road surfaces caused by heavy rains,” the department said in a statement.
Safety reminders for motorists
They shared the following tips for safe driving in stormy conditions:
-
Check weather updates regularly before travelling and plan your route accordingly.
-
Avoid travelling in severe weather unless absolutely necessary.
-
Switch on headlights, reduce speed, and increase following distance to prevent accidents on wet and slippery roads.
The department has also urged residents to report any storm-related damage or road hazards to local authorities immediately.
Meanwhile, more rain has been forecast tomorrow with a high of 25°C, partial sunshine with a thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon.
