Severe Level 2 thunderstorm warning in place for Polokwane
The SA Weather Service has issued a Level 2 thunderstorm warning for Polokwane, with possible hail, flooding and strong winds expected today and tomorrow.
POLOKWANE – The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 2 severe thunderstorm warning for Polokwane in place for today and tomorrow (October 15 and 16).
Weather forecast for today and tomorrow, 15-16 October 2025:
Partly cloudy and cool to warm but hot in places, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east and south. ⚠️ Severe thunderstorms⛈ and damaging waves🌊#saws #southafricanweather #weatheroutlook pic.twitter.com/7E6CwWCqoJ— SA Weather Service (@SAWeatherServic) October 15, 2025
The warning, according to their website, will take effect from 16:00 this afternoon well into the evening and again tomorrow afternoon.
According to Vox Weather, storms are possible due to a high pressure system over Namibia that will filter across Limpopo this afternoon.
“There is a likelihood that some of those storms could turn severe, produce hail and damaging winds and heavy rain over the central parts of Limpopo so please be careful,” their forecast suggests.
A Level 2 warning suggests a high likelihood with minor impact.
The SAWS says localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges might be possible as well as large amounts of small hail over an open area.
Their forecast suggests a 60% chance of scattered thundershowers today and tomorrow with partly cloudy and cool to warm but hot conditions in the east.
According to AccuWeather, Polokwane will reach a high of 32°C tomorrow with their forecast predicting a 25% chance of rain.
