Dolly van Wyk finds her calling at Little Bright Stars Crèche

Little Bright Stars teacher Dolly van Wyk shares how her love for children inspires her daily work.

POLOKWANE – Dolly van Wyk has spent almost three years at Little Bright Stars Crèche and Preschool, and she says every day spent with the young ones reminds her of why she loves her profession so much. Her passion for children inspired her to become a preschool teacher.

Growing up, Dolly often assisted her mother, who was also a preschool teacher, whenever help was needed.

“I appreciate my job because we receive the children as a blank canvas. They absorb everything they see and hear. Preschool learners are very impressionable. They take in information quickly and copy the behaviours they observe. As teachers, it’s our responsibility to model the right behaviours so they can grow up to be good people.”

Although she initially taught four-to five-year-olds, Dolly recently transitioned to the baby class, caring for children as young as four months up to one year and seven months.

“I had the opportunity to care for the baby class, and I absolutely fell in love. I can’t imagine leaving them,” she said.

A grandmother of two, Dolly brings a nurturing, ‘doting granny’ energy to the school, and it’s no surprise that her little learners adore her.
