Limpopo man scammed R18 000 in bogus car dealership deal
The Bolobedu police are searching for a man linked to an R18 000 car sales scam involving a fake Toyota Quantum deal.
POLOKWANE – The Bolobedu police are investigating a case of theft by false pretence after a 62-year-old man was allegedly defrauded of R18 000 in a fake car sale.
According to police, the incident occurred on September 12, 2024, when the victim made a deposit to a sales representative from a car dealership based in Johannesburg.
The payment was meant to secure a Toyota Quantum vehicle.
However, when the complainant later attempted to contact the representative to finalise the deal, the man could not be reached and was reportedly no longer employed at the dealership.
The Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said they have identified the suspect as Maredi Silas Tebogo Khalapaye (51), who is known to the complainant.
“Khalapaye is believed to reside in Mooikloof Ridge, Pretoria, but is also known to frequent Seshego, Mashashane, and Mankweng in Limpopo. We appeal to him to report to his nearest police station, as we believe he can assist in resolving the matter,” his statement read.
