Limpopo pig farm murder trial continues with site visit to crime scene

As the pig farm murder trial continues, Judge Ngobeni and legal teams inspected the area where two women were allegedly murdered.

POLOKWANE – The pig farm double murder trial currently before the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane continued this week with a loco inspection, a court visit to the farm where two women were allegedly killed in August 2024.

Judge Jane Ngobeni, presiding over the case, joined the legal teams, the accused, and the State’s key witness on Tuesday for the site visit to Onverwacht farm, owned by Zachariah Olivier (61). Olivier and his employee, Zimbabwean national William Musora (50), are facing charges for the murders of Maria Makgato and Lucia Ndlovu.

The inspection aimed to help the court assess the scene of the alleged crime, observe key features, and gain a clearer understanding of the testimonies presented.

The State’s witness, Rudolph De Wet (20), who was arrested alongside the two accused, led the demonstration.

De Wet, who has been placed under witness protection, pointed out where and how the women were shot before their bodies were allegedly thrown into a pigsty.

He described how he fired a .303 rifle in the direction where one of the bodies was later found, while Olivier allegedly fired a .22 rifle at the second victim.

During the site visit, Judge Ngobeni made her own observations about the terrain, noting discrepancies with earlier testimonies.

“It is not a bush in that area, but the area is not clean. It may be that this is due to the fact that the incident took place some time back, but there are no bushes,” she remarked.

This comment was in reference to earlier testimony that the women had been shot in a bushy area while allegedly collecting expired dairy products that were offloaded by a Clover delivery truck.

The case continues.
