Two men arrested with explosives on the N1 in Musina

Police find blasting cartridges and detonating fuses in a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation on the N1 near Musina, leading to the arrest of two men.

LIMPOPO – Two men were arrested in the early hours of this morning (January 13) after police discovered explosives in their vehicle during a stop-and-search operation on the N1 north in Musina.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says police were conducting their duties when a vehicle sped past them.

The officers turned on their blue lights and followed the car, which eventually stopped near the Petros truck depot.

After receiving consent to search, officers found a large black bag in the boot containing 119 blasting cartridges and 24 detonating cord fuses.

The two occupants, aged 21 and 24, could not provide a lawful explanation for the explosives and were arrested on the spot.

The pair will appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (January 14) to face a charge of possession of explosives.
