Drugs, illicit cigarettes seized in Limpopo operations
SAPS arrest a man for crystal meth and cocaine in Westenburg, and seize illicit cigarettes after a driver fled in Mokopane.
LIMPOPO – SAPS conducted two separate intelligence-led operations on Tuesday (January 20) as part of its intensified fight against drug-related and serious organised crime.
Drug arrest and seizure in Westenburg
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says in the first operation, members of the Provincial Organised Crime and Narcotics Team targeted a location in Doornkraal, Annadale, within the Westenburg policing area.
During the operation, a 37-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs. Police recovered one 5g packet and four 1g sachets of crystal methamphetamine, along with 20 sachets of rock cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs is R2 700.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
Driver flees as police seize illicit cigarettes in Mokopane
In a separate incident, members of the Waterberg Flying Squad acted on intelligence about a vehicle suspected of transporting illicit goods along the Percy Five road in the Mokopane area.

“An operation was conducted between 06:00 and 18:00. Upon seeing the police, the driver of the suspected vehicle abandoned it and fled into nearby bushes. A search was conducted, but the suspect managed to evade capture,” says Ledwaba.

A search of the abandoned vehicle revealed 186 cartons of illicit cigarettes, with an estimated value of R18 500. Both the vehicle and the cigarettes were confiscated.
Police investigations into both cases are continuing.
